 Chico, California

This is the one bedroom studio apartment I was living in all throughout the pandemic up until April of 2021. This corner of my apartment became the space where I created most of my thesis work from the previous fall semester and where I spent countless hours applying to residencies and grants.

In March, I was notified that I would be granted the Windgate Fellowship Award which granted me the opportunity to apply to residencies and workshops of my choice! By April, I would be notified that I was accepted into the Archie Bray Summer Residency program located in Helena, Montana. So much change in a matter of months!!!

I spent the month of May in SoCal which brought much needed family and friend quality time since I had moved away in 2018. Before I left for Montana, my friends convinced me to take a trip with them out to the Grand Canyon and I'm grateful to have taken this trip with this solid group of homies.

I learned so much in a short span of time and got to meet so many wonderful people and artists from all over the world!

While in Montana, I ended up connecting with Adam Field who later on invited me to work for an upcoming collaboration project for Seth Rogen's newest ash tray collection by Houseplant! This bottom left photo was the view from his studio and on the right is Molly Walter who put in so much work into the project as well!

In late August I drove over to Snowmass Village, Colorado and began my workshops taking place at Anderson Ranch! My first workshop was taught by Eva Kwong titled Simple & Complex - Form and Color. I made some friends in this class including Erica Mao, Jessica Kao and Alex!

My second workshop was hosted by Sam Harvey and it was called Off The Wall which focused on ceramic wall pieces and surface decoration. I made so many amazing friends in this workshop including SK, ASMA & KATARINA! I also loved getting to know the ceramic shop assistants for this class including Zahra and Yehudis <3 Click on their names to see their art!

My final workshop was a printmaking workshop hosted by Laura Berman! I was so happy to be back in a print shop experimenting with so many different types of relief processes. Here I spent most of my time with Dana, Amy and Ashley Genevieve Gottlieb.

While I was in Colorado, I got an unexpected invitation from Steven Young Lee to return back to Montana for a two year long artist residency! I gladly accepted but before returning I decided to plan a road trip with my mom to visit Yellowstone National Park. LOVE YOU MUJER!

 WELCOME TO THE
SNAIL MAIL CLUB

WHO: Snail Mail Club is a pen pal collective with an interest in the lost art of sending physical mail to other people through letters and/or art.

WHAT:  We are a group of people utilizing the United States Postal Service to connect with other humans! Mail can consist of as much written communication as you feel comfortable with sharing as some people might prefer sending art more than letters. All members will have a name and address of someone else in the group. This creates the possibility to send AND receive mail each time! (-: Let’s see how this goes!

WHERE: Snail Mail Club operates out of Chico, California with participants in Arcata, Chico, Orville, Los Molinos, Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Pennsylvania and Germany!! (-:

WHEN: We will begin operating in June 2020. New pen pal names and addresses will be sent every other month. (August, October, December and so on) If you feel the urge to continue sending mail to past month pen pals that is definitely encouraged!! <3

WHY??? Snail Mail Club was created out of an urge to contact others through mail. Sending mail is a chance to acknowledge someone else’s humanity and create human connection beyond technology by utilizing the Postal Service. When we create a safe space for others to share, be heard and be vulnerable we accept them fully without judgment.

Next I will include some tips and guidelines for the club.

TIPS FOR SENDING MAIL:

Get CREATIVE! Draw on your letters/envelopes if you feel the urge to. A colorful letter has 100% chance of brightening up someone’s day. Feel free to use materials I have sent you to start a conversation. All up to you (-:

WRITE with honesty and compassion about who you are, what you like and how you have been spending your time during the pandemic and recent world events.

ASK QUESTIONS (respectfully) If you and your pen pal enjoy writing to one another, ask intriguing questions and get to know where they are coming from. Be curious!

§  What is your favorite word, and what does it mean?
§  Have you participated in recent protests?
§  Have you ever been in love?
§  What do your parents do for a living?
§  Have you ever broken a bone?
§  Have you ever had an operation/surgery?
§  Where were you born?
§  Who has had the biggest influence on your life?
§  What’s your favorite thing about your current job?
§  What’s your least favorite thing about your current job?
§  Tell me something you’ve felt really proud of this year
§  What qualities do you look for in a friend?

GUIDELINES:

BE SAFE If possible, try to send mail with the least amount of contact between you and others. This can be done by placing outgoing mail in your mailbox with the proper postage for your mail carrier to pick up. One stamp will cover a 1oz. piece of mail! (:

RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. Pretty simple. This can mean asking someone their pronouns or how they would like to be addressed in the letter. Never assume and always be courteous.

HAVE FUN! This guideline is of most importance. We are all in this together, and the sooner we acknowledge that the better future we can make together!

Lastly, THANK YOU for wanting to participate in this project. I hope you find the tips useful and are as excited to start as I am! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. Stay healthy, stay sane and stay creative <3
